Last night, the Los Angeles Dodgers held their first bobblehead giveaway of the season. For whatever reason, they chose to honor third baseman Casey Blake.
Don’t get me wrong, Blake is a decent enough ballplayer who puts up passable numbers, sets a good example for the youngsters, and just does his job right. However, he hasn’t even been in L.A. a full season yet and voiced his desire to return to the Cleveland Indians from whence he was traded the fall prior. Not exactly a malcontent, considering he spent years there and likely had a nice, established life, but still.
The only possible reason I could see him getting this bobblehead nod was to make his new 3-year contract with the club. Given the circumstances, it’s fairly ironic that the Dodgers’ “THIS IS MY TOWN” slogan for this season is slapped right above his head.
Also, I know his beard is quasi recognizable and is surely a captivating bobblehead characteristic, must like Manny Ramirez‘s dreadlocks will be later in July, but how do you let that come first before the likes of Chad Billingsley or Jonathan Broxton?
