As publicized, he is no longer a 12:30 player. (Which may be unfortunate since the Lakers play the Houston Rockets at 12:30 on Sunday)

He is simply the machine.

Sasha Vujacic - The Machine

Sasha Vujacic has sure as hell matured nicely this year.  Emerging from his former Yugoslavian shell, the strapping young Slovenian can finally hit the three with consistency, currently converting at an impressive 43% clip.

The Lakers recently discovered Saša stands at 6’7″, and seeing as he’s no Magic Johnson, isn’t best suited playing point guard. This has greatly benefited his game. Hell, even his defense has picked up. And for the naysayers who call shenanigans on his flops, Sasha will gladly send you a European soccer DVD illustrating exactly what a flop is.

With his recent development, I am now officially concerned about his potential departure. The Lakers have a few role players set for free agency, such as Ronny Turiaf and Trevor Ariza, but I don’t see them commanding that much money or attention. Plus, both of them seemingly would want to play in LA and enjoy their roles. However, as Daniel Sagal of LABallTalk pointed out to me, Vujacic could command a bit more attention. He would sure as hell look good sitting wide open near the 3-point line in a Phoenix Suns uniform.

With a bit of luck and perhaps some shrewd negotiating by the suddenly relevant Mitch Kupchak, the Lakers will be able to keep their machine well oiled, operational, and in Los Angeles.

(Apologies for that horrible last line)
